Jewellery Care & Cleaning Tips

Discover the best ways to keep your jewellery looking stunning and well-maintained for years to come.

To clean silver jewellery, use a soft cloth or a silver polishing cloth to gently buff the surface. For a deeper clean, create a mixture of warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap. Soak the jewellery for a few minutes, then gently scrub with a soft toothbrush before rinsing and drying thoroughly.

Gold jewellery can be cleaned using warm water mixed with a few drops of washing up liquid. Let the jewellery soak for about 15 minutes, then gently clean with a soft toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.

Metal bracelets should be cleaned regularly to prevent tarnish. Use a damp cloth to wipe away dirt and oils after each wear. For tougher grime, a mixture of water and mild soap works well. Avoid abrasive materials that can scratch the surface.

To clean gemstone rings, avoid harsh chemicals that may damage the stones. Instead, soak the ring in warm soapy water and gently clean with a soft toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Be careful with porous stones like pearls or opals, which may require special care.

To prevent tarnish, store silver jewellery in a dry, airtight container when not in use. Avoid exposing it to water, chemicals, or prolonged sunlight. Regularly clean and polish your silver to maintain its shine and prevent tarnish from building up.

Tarnish is a natural process where metals like silver react with air, moisture, or chemicals, forming a dull layer on the surface. Sweat, perfumes, lotions, and humidity can speed up this reaction. Keeping jewellery clean, dry, and stored properly can help slow tarnishing.

Some jewellery contains copper or alloys that react with acids and moisture on your skin, causing greenish marks. This is harmless and common with fashion jewellery or plated metals. To avoid this, keep jewellery dry, remove it when washing hands, and coat the inside with clear nail polish for a barrier.
